Saloum Delta

The Saloum Delta National Park is one of the richest African deltas. Its 500,000 hectares consist of mangroves, shellfish and artificial islands. Here, you can find mangroves teeming with lush flora and fauna, oysters, delicious seafood as well as hyenas and monkeys.

In Sine Saloum, you breathe the pure air of the “blue zone” of Senegal. Here, you can admire the gigantic multi-centenary baobabs, whispering their stories and myths to whoever wants to listen to them, letting yourself be lulled by the sound of thousands of birds.

A mangrove area, dotted by bolons and islands, the Delta was elected as one of the most beautiful bays of the World in 2005. UNESCO also lists it as a World Heritage Site.

A true ornithological paradise, it has almost all of the 650 bird species that Senegal hosts (which makes it the second best country in the world to visit for a keen ornithologist). Our expert guides can give you tours of islands of birds (in French, iles aux oiseaux) for you to recognize the hundreds of different species that you observe.

Do not forget this is the country of Teranga, the legendary Senegalese hospitality! Behind the hotel doors, it is local people welcoming you. Enjoy the harmony between the mangroves and the village of Toubacouta, to get to know the culture and traditions of the peoples of Saloum.

Last but not least, immerse yourself in magic. Saloum is, among others, a place where you can swim with bioluminescent phytoplankton – they will light up when you move in the water. That is for sure a unique night swimming experience in Senegal…
